Gravel cycling (gravel grinding) could be the next big thing for bicycle tourism. I believe that Grant County could be to gravel riding what
Oakridge Oregon is to mountain biking.
We already have many miles of county, Forest Service and BLM roads here. And all of them run through spectacular scenery. If we take what we have and promote it effectively, we might become what Moab Utah is for rock climbers.
In a few weeks, I will be escorting a guest around Grant County to show him what we have here. This summer he was touring the wheat country and he wrote it up on BikePortland.org
like this
Do you want to help? If there is something you can offer gravel riding visitors I'd love to be able to tell Dan about it. I think you never get a second chance to make a first impression and I'd like to make this trip as memorable as possible.
If you'd like me to show Dan something special, or have a suggestion, question, or whatever, you can email me at or call .
If this goes well, later, I'd like to discuss cooperative approach to making Grant County famous for our gravel. Perhaps a network of stops connected by gravel. Maybe try to get everyone to come during one week for the Grant County Gravel Gala. Or maybe something else entirely. If you're interested or have any thoughts, let me know about that too.
Thanks for your time,
Dave Driscoll
